Nutro Products Announces -- Thursday May 21st, 2009

Nutro Products Announces Voluntary Recall of Limited Range of Dry Cat Food Products http://www.fda.gov/oc/po/firmrecalls/nutro05_09.html Contact: Monica Barrett Nutro Products, Inc. (615) 628-5387 monica.barrett@effem.com FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -- Franklin, Tennessee (May 21, 2009) -- Today, Nutro Products announced a voluntary recall of select varieties of NUTRO® NATURAL CHOICE® COMPLETE CARE® Dry Cat Foods and NUTRO® MAX® Cat Dry Foods with “Best If Used By Dates” between May 12, 2010 and August 22, 2010. The cat food is being voluntarily recalled in the United States and ten additional countries. This recall is due to incorrect levels of zinc and potassium in our finished product resulting from a production error by a US-based premix supplier. Two mineral premixes were affected. One premix contained excessive levels of zinc and under-supplemented potassium. The second premix under-supplemented potassium. Both zinc and potassium are essential nutrients for cats and are added as nutritional supplements to NUTRO® dry cat food. This issue was identified during an audit of our documentation from the supplier. An extensive review confirmed that only these two premixes were affected. This recall does not affect any NUTRO® dog food products, wet dog or cat food, or dog and cat treats. Affected product was distributed to retail customers in all 50 states, as well as to customers in Canada, Mexico, Japan, Korea, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, New Zealand, and Israel. We are working with all of our distributors and retail customers, in both the US and internationally, to ensure that the recalled products are not on store shelves. These products should not be sold or distributed further. Consumers who have purchased affected product should immediately discontinue feeding the product to their cats, and switch to another product with a balanced nutritional profile. While we have received no consumer complaints related to this issue, cat owners should monitor their cat for symptoms, including a reduction in appetite or refusal of food, weight loss, vomiting or diarrhea. If your cat is experiencing health issues or is pregnant, please contact your veterinarian. Consumers who have purchased product affected by this voluntary recall should return it to their retailer for a full refund or exchange for another NUTRO® dry cat food product. Cat owners who have questions about the recall should call 1-800-833-5330 between the hours 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM CST, or visit www.nutroproducts.com. SAVE needs your HELP! -- Friday November 21st, 2008

SAVE needs your HELP!!! We are overwhelmed with kitties. We have no room in foster homes and adoptions are at an all time low. We have been taking the kitties to the Lakewood Petsmart on weekends and the Plaza Mini Mall in Holiday City on Wednesdays for more exposure, but to no avail. We are in the red Thousands of dollars. We are struggling to provide litter, food and medical care for our kitties. If we don’t get some help soon, we will have to admit defeat, give up our passion and cease to help these loving and forgiving animals. Recently someone dumped 3 beautiful kittens in a box outside the center. Well, those babies sat silently there for hours until a volunteer found them. Thank goodness they looked inside and didn’t think it was some donated items because they could have wound up in our storage room waiting to be sorted. There was a note inside that said “Please find these kittens a loving home.” Well that was not a simple as that since sadly two tested positive for Leukemia. They seem so healthy and have the most sweetest dispositions that we simply don’t have the heart to put them down. We are keeping them in a large carrier in our store room trying to bide some time until they either test negative (which can sometimes happen), or until we find a home or foster. We cannot let them run and play freely like the others because they have to be kept in quarantine away from everyone else and we simply don’t have any more space. Since they came in a red box, we call them our Christmas kittens. They are absolutely stunning, a torti named Holly, a calico named Noel and a little black and white guy named Nick. We are hoping and praying for a Christmas miracle here! Just for the record: Any more cats dumped at our center, will have to go to the local shelter since we have absolutely NO MORE ROOM at the INN! If you or anyone you know is able to help, here are a few suggestions. Donating items on our wish list. Of course adopting an animal would be phenomenal! However, if that is not possible, fostering one would be just as well. (Our Christmas kittens have to be in a home with no other cats.) If shopping is difficult for you, donating a gift card from Petsmart or Shoprite would be great. If you would like to donate monies toward our bill at Toms River Vet, please call 732-349-4566 and speak to Melanie and just let her know to apply it to SAVE’s bill. Please contact us & let us know about this generous donation. If you have time to donate, we always need help at the center (especially cleaners). If you have any medical experience, maybe you can possibly help test and vaccinate our babies, please contact us. And most importantly the most simple gift to give, Word Of Mouth! Pass the word around that we desperately need help. Pass the word around that we have the most loving kittens and cats that need a home. Some of our cats were kittens when they came in and have literally grown up here. These cats are tested, vaccinated and super social. All our cats are really awesome and so many are just stunningly beautiful, there is no way someone interested in adopting couldn’t find one to fall in love with. If you have or know of a reputable rescue that might be able to take one or two, please have them contact us. Any help anyone can give is greatly appreciated!!! Thank you and have a Healthy & Happy Holiday Season!

SAVE needs to be SAVED! -- Friday November 21st, 2008

SAVE needs to be SAVED!!! We have said this before but now worse than ever, we are overwhelmed with kitties!!! The situation is so dismal we cannot see how we will make it to 2009. If you or anyone you know is able to help, here are a few suggestions. Donating items on our wish list. Of course adopting an animal would be phenomenal! However, if that is not possible, fostering one would be just as well. If shopping is difficult for you, donating a gift card from Petsmart or Shoprite would be great. If you have any medical experience, maybe you can possibly help test and vaccinate our babies, please contact us. Shop for the Holidays at our Thrift Shop and do your online shopping, through the igive site (the link can be found on our homepage) shop all your usual stores and we will get a % of your order. They cannot go in a home with other cats since they might be contagious and we wont place them in a home with other Leukemia cats since it is too soon to tell if they might shake the virus off. Senior for Seniors Progra -- Wednesday August 30th, 2006

Senior for Senior’s Program Due to the large amount of older animals that have suddenly found themselves without a home to call their own, S.A.V.E. have developed the Senior for Senior’s Program. What this program does is join an older cat or dog (five years or older) with a person who can provide love, attention and a peaceful home that these abandoned animals so desperately need. The benefits of owning an older pet are immense. Many people feel that an older pet will not bond with the new owner, however that is the farthest thing from the truth. Older animals love affection and return that affection 10 fold. Shelter pets seem to know they have gotten another chance of life and actually show their appreciation. It is a known fact that owning a pet can lower your blood pressure and all around can benefit your well being, physically, spiritually and mentally. Our program matches the new pet owner with the appropriate pet for them. The adoption fee is $20. All the animals will be spayed/neutered and up to date on all vaccinations. If you are ready for a new best friend who will love you unconditionally, call Diana at 732-475-2693. Let us work together and find the right pet for you!
