Welcome to SAVE

Established in 2002, we are an all-volunteer 501(c) non-profit rescue shelter. S.A.V.E. takes unwanted, homeless, and abandoned animals and provides them with medical care and a safe and nurturing environment until they find their forever homes. S.A.V.E. is a no kill shelter.

Our story begins in the 1990's when our founding members volunteered at the original TRAS for years. We did fundraisers and took animals off site to get them seen and adopted. Through our fundraising, we were able to get many items the shelter needed, as well as pay for many required medical procedures. Along with the public, we advocated for a new TRAS which was needed.

After a name change we incorporated S.A.V.E. in 2002, in which we combined our Thrift Store with a shelter for cats.
S.A.V.E. was the only rescue asked by TRAS to assist after Hurricane Sandy. We worked with them, the police, and the National Guard, , as well as calling veterinarians and the public for carriers, blankets, and food. We saved over 120 animals and reunited 98% with their grateful owners.
In 2016, S.A.V.E. opened our own shelter, where we are today. Being a small grassroots organization, S.A.V.E. is very community oriented. Anything our Thrift Shop and Shelter cannot use is paid forward. The Thrift Store donates clothes to organizations for people in need. We donate to a pet food pantry to help people keep their companion animals.
S.A.V.E. is also an educational group, speaking at different locations, i.e., senior communities and the high school, regarding pet care, safety, and spay/neuter. Through a school program, high school students are allowed to volunteer for credits. Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts come into our shelter and donate while working for their badges. Another special group is our adults with limitations, who visit weekly and socialize with our homeless animals.
We exist solely on donations, fundraising events, our Thrift Shop, and adoption fees, and all money raised goes into the care of our animals. All donations, monetary as well as from our wish list, are always appreciated.
